Richard Hunt, a world-renowned sculptor, will develop the monumental sculpture. He is a native Chicagoan, with over 50 years of experience in creating abstract works suggesting recognizable human and natural forms. Educated at the University of Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1950s, he has produced over 120 public-site sculptures. Chicago is home to 35 Richard Hunt sculptures and his work can be seen throughout the United States and as far away as Jerusalem and Vienna.
In 1971, Richard Hunt became the first African-American sculptor accorded a retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Throughout the years he has received Guggenheim, Ford and Tamarind fellowships, Logan, Palmer, and Compana prizes from the Art Institute of Chicago, and in 2009 was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Sculpture Center. Mr. Hunt holds 14 honorary degrees, and his work is represented in major museums and collections internationally.
